Dr Jim Giannisis

Dr Jim Giannisis graduated from the University of Sydney in 1991, Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S). He has always been a member of the Australia Dental Association. He commenced practicing dentistry at Beverly Hills, Parramatta and Werrington with an emphasis on trauma and emergency dental care.

During 1993 he was a locum dental surgeon at Gunnedah, Boggabri, Manilla and Barraba in the New England country district of NSW. At the end of 1993 Dr Giannisis joined Dr Peter Furey at Rockdale. Many of the original patients and their families still attend the practice.

In 1999 Dr Peter Furey retired and we were pleased to welcome Dr Mahes Wanigesekera to our dental family. We then became “Rockdale Dentists est. 1954”. Dr Wanigesekera’s interest in endodontics gave the practice a new and important direction.

“Dr G” (as he tends to be known and likes), has a special interest in sleep medicine with the prevention and treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. In 2010 he was awarded the Somnomed “Platinum” status for sleep apnoea care.

Dr G is a member of the Society of Endodontology, where saving teeth by root canal therapy (when required) is a priority. However, he believes that the care of gums comes first as they form the foundation for teeth to be kept for life! Only when gums are healthy (periodontal care) can quality root canal treatment, restorative and cosmetic dental care is achieved. This is vital in overall general health as gum disease has been linked to heart disease and strokes.

Dr G believes that he should keep up with dental technology and research by attending as many courses as possible. Recently, Dr G has had lots of enjoyment using “The Wand” anaesthetic technique Designed with children in mind it has become a favorite with the young and “young at heart”. This technique is a very comfortable alternative to injections. He also loves using the operating Microscope for dental procedures.

In Dr G’s down time he plays the violin and in 2009-2010 was the President of Rockdale Rotary where he tirelessly worked for his members and charitable causes.

In addition, he has been an Honorary Dental Surgeon since 1995 for The Spastic Centre (Cerebral Palsy Association) of NSW. He provides voluntary dental care to disabled children at the Alambie Heights Dental Clinic and at The Mona Vale Hospital operating theatres.

Dr G has a beautiful young family and would love to welcome yours to be part of our dental family
